Receive coordinator and welcome (volunteer) training for one of our welcome projectsJoin Us Today As Partner
We offer tailored training to churches to help you develop how you can welcome refugees and asylum seekers in your local context.
We get to know your church personally; providing practical tools to ensure your church is ready to give a good ‘Welcome’ to refugees arriving, providing a community where people from other cultures feel they can belong.
Coordinator Training takes place in Derby throughout the year. Our upcoming dates in 2020 include: 30th January, 19th March, 14th May, 2nd July. The Welcome Churches team will then travel to your church to run your first Welcomer training.
We believe that newly-arrived refugees and asylum seekers deserve the very best quality of care and support that is on offer.
Our projects equip and resource the local church to play a positive role in welcoming refugees to their local area.
Specifically equipping churches to welcome and support asylum seekers, housed in Home Office accommodation. Trained volunteers deliver a Welcome Box, filled with small gifts, to the homes of people who have recently arrived in the area. They provide information about local groups and services and support asylum seekers to find a place to belong within community.
WELCOME TO RESETTLEMENT
Supporting churches to welcome refugees through the Community Sponsorship programme. Churches apply through the Home Office, raise funds and are trained to sponsor a family currently living as refugees in the Middle East or North Africa regions. The family is then brought to the UK to rebuild their lives in the church’s local community, helped by the church. We also train churches who have a role in their local council’s (VPRS) Resettlement scheme.
Do you live in an area where other people like to come on holiday
We are looking for churches who could host a Welcome Holiday, giving refugees the chance to escape from the stress and chaos that life in the UK can bring.
