Celebrating the impact of refugees in local communities across the UK

Welcome Churches’ vision is for every refugee to be welcomed by a local church. Bringing together Christian refugees and the churches that are welcoming them, the Welcome Conference is a unique opportunity to celebrate the incredible contributions that refugees and those seeking asylum make to their local communities; and the Church that plays a vital role in their integration in the UK.

The Welcome Conference is also a place for churches to have a fresh conversation about the role of the Church in refugee integration in the UK. There will be inspiration, information, and connection.

Who is the Welcome Conference for? For refugees and those seeking asylum who are followers of Jesus

Many refugees fleeing to the UK have had to leave their home countries due to their Christian faith. They face the same challenges as all those seeking refuge in the UK, but may also have the added struggle of not being able to safely connect and integrate with others from their country or region due to their faith. The Welcome Conference is a unique opportunity for refugees and people seeking asylum who are Christians and following Jesus to come together, safely share their experiences, encourage one another and build connections and community.

Note on registering for free places

Who is the Welcome Conference for? For Churches

In recent years churches across the UK have opened their doors and their hearts to welcome refugees and those seeking asylum. The Welcome Conference is an opportunity for churches to hear first-hand the stories and experiences of Christian refugees arriving in the UK in order to

  • Better understand and be better equipped to provide support and welcome.
  • Celebrate the array of knowledge, talents and abilities that refugees bring to the community.
  • Support the Christian refugee community by bringing them together to safely share their experiences, encourage one another and build connections and community.

The role of churches in refugee achievement

The journey of refugees and people seeking asylum continues once they arrive in the UK. Many people newly arriving in the UK face social isolation, trauma, health problems and financial pressures. Yet with the support and encouragement of communities of Christians across the UK, many refugees and those seeking asylum take a parallel journey of faith as they establish themselves in local communities and churches. This faith helps them to come to terms with their experiences, play an active role in the body of the church and be fully involved in their local communities.
