Church Engagement Officer, Northern Ireland

We’re hiring a Northern Ireland Church Engagement Officer.

  • LOCATION: Northern Ireland.  This is a hybrid role, with a requirement to travel to churches across the Province and other parts of the UK to support the wider work of Welcome Churches.

  • HOURS: Negotiable, between 3 - 5 days per week

  • SALARY: £29,450 pro rata depending on experience Plus 5% employer pension contribution

  • CONTRACT: Permanent

Context:

Welcome Churches is the largest organisation in the UK Church helping the Church engage with the increasingly pressing topic of refugees.  We equip and support churches as they welcome refugees and people seeking asylum in their communities. Together, we work towards our vision to ensure that no refugee is alone.

Since Welcome Churches began working in Northern Ireland in early 2022, we have seen huge growth in the number of people seeking refuge who are being accommodated in Northern Ireland, and the landscape is rapidly changing. In the past, people seeking asylum and refugees arriving on resettlement schemes have largely been accommodated in Belfast, but they are now being accommodated across the Province and in new areas that have not previously had the opportunity to welcome refugees.

The Northern Ireland Church Engagement Officer will provide high quality training and support to churches and other refugee-related organisations in the Province.

The role sits within the Church Engagement Team and will report directly to the Church Engagement Manager, who will provide accountability in the role and will ensure that any training or support needs are met.

There is an expectation that the applicant can lead Christian prayers and Church services, therefore there is an occupational requirement for the Northern Ireland Church Engagement Officer to be a practising Christian.
