Regional Need

From Afghan families being relocated at short notice and refugees from Syria, Iraq and Eritrea who are being resettled, to those arriving from Hong Kong who are planning a new life, Wales is a Nation of Sanctuary. There is an urgent need to establish regional support who can engage with local churches. better understand local needs, and develop relationship-based partnerships to deliver key support.

Local churches are excellently placed to ensure that those seeking refuge in Wales are welcomed into the community. The Wales Coordinator will lead to strengthened ties and relationships with churches across Wales, allowing for increased opportunities for training and collaboration. This role will ensure we can meet the needs of churches in the region and provide the support needed to assist the integration of refugees and asylum seekers. Ultimately, we are seeking to achieve our aim for all refugees to be welcomed by the local Church.

Local Response

Subject to funding, Welcome Churches is hoping to recruit a Church Engagement Officer for Wales. Our priorities in this area are to:

  • engage with local churches, establishing strong relationships with and between churches across Wales

  • develop a better understanding of local needs

  • foster increased opportunities for regional training and collaboration, and

  • establish relationship-based partnerships to deliver key support.
