#AfghanWelcomeHomes Appeal

In August 2021 thousands of men, women and children fled Afghanistan as the Taliban claimed victory over the capital city of Kabul.

The United Kingdom responded and announced resettlement routes to Afghan families who had supported British forces.

Over 60 bridging hotels opened across the UK to accommodate over 8,000 people from Afghanistan eligible to resettle in the UK, half of which being children.

Hotels, recognised as expensive and unsuitable for families, were announced to close and residents were told that they would receive notice letters and housing offers.

Last week we spoke with a support worker working in two hotels in Hertfordshire. She confirmed the rising concern that many hotel guests have received notice letters confirming closures but few have received suitable housing offers.

Families in her hotels are facing an impending threat of homelessness by the end of August 2023.
