Named Community Sponsorship
This Autumn, we will be sharing news about an exciting new opportunity for your church to be part of a fresh wave of welcome across the UK.
The UK Government’s announcement on Monday 28th September that it will introduce a Named Community Sponsorship scheme, provides a chance for communities across the UK to re-write the headlines, choosing compassion and connection over division.
The scheme enables local communities, including churches, to play a practical role in welcoming refugees to the UK. Successful sponsorship will require careful preparation, appropriate safeguarding, strong partnership working and a long-term commitment to the wellbeing of refugee families. We look forward to supporting churches as they explore this opportunity and discern how they can respond faithfully and responsibly.
We believe that hospitality can transform communities. We hear every day through our Welcome Churches Network that when a church opens its doors and makes space for a stranger, it does more than provide practical assistance: it creates the possibility of friendship, belonging and mutual flourishing.
“They opened their doors to me and they make me feel like family.”
Do you, and / or your church sense God's call to take this next step in living out the biblical mandate to welcome the stranger, love our neighbour and make room at the table for those seeking sanctuary?
At this stage, the details of the scheme are still being finalised. If you would like to register your interest and find out more, please sign up below and we will keep you informed with the latest updates.
