Day 5: I Am Not Alone

I Am Not Alone
Samuel Luak

By Samuel Luak, Welcome Churches

Loneliness is difficult for anyone. But for refugees, it can feel even more overwhelming. This is because many of them have been forced to leave their homes, families, and everything familiar. They often find themselves feeling lost, isolated, and alone in an unfamiliar environment, culture, and country that is completely unfamiliar. I know this feeling. I have lived it myself.

Despite those lonely times, there is hope. Refugees can find belonging, first in God, who never leaves us, and then in His family: the Church, welcoming communities, and individuals who open their hearts and homes. We are all called to be part of a community that welcomes others.

That is why the vision of Welcome Churches, No Refugee Alone, is so important. It sends a message to refugees that they are not alone on this journey. It is also a call to all of us to ensure every refugee is valued, supported, and loved. You’re welcome can change a life. As the Bible says,

God sets the lonely in families…
— Psalm 68:6 (NIV)

Want to support more refugees like Samuel?

Samuel is a strong and courageous person - we know this firsthand, because he’s our colleague. We’ve seen how God has strengthened him through his journey, turning pain into purpose day by day. But Samuel’s story doesn’t have to be unique. With love, support, and community, many more refugees and people seeking asylum can experience transformation, hope, and belonging.

At Welcome Churches, we’re equipping churches across the UK to welcome refugees, celebrate diversity, and build communities where everyone is empowered to belong and find their voice.

By giving today, you’re helping to shape a future where no refugee or person seeking asylum is left alone.
