Day 6: Becoming a Blessing
By Samuel Luak, Welcome Churches
The refugee journey from crisis to safety, integration, and thriving is long and often painful. It begins with fleeing for their life, a time when help is essential and life feels fragile. Yet over time, they grow into sources of strength, leadership, and compassion. Their experiences can shape them to rebuild what was broken, not only for themselves but for their communities.
At first, refugees often need support to rebuild their lives. But as they settle and gain confidence, they can give back in many valuable ways. Their resilience, skills, and faith become gifts that bless those around them. They are not just recipients but givers of hope, encouragement, and support.
By giving back, refugees transform from those who receive help to those who contribute, bringing hope, renewal, and strength to both their communities and wider society. Their gifts heal what was broken and build new bonds of belonging and shared humanity.
To all who have journeyed this path, remember God’s promise: “I will bless you… and you will be a blessing” (Genesis 12:2). Your story is part of a greater one, where blessing flows through you to others, creating a movement of love and restoration. Your experience is a gift to this world.
Want to support more refugees like Samuel?
Samuel is a strong and courageous person - we know this firsthand, because he’s our colleague. We’ve seen how God has strengthened him through his journey, turning pain into purpose day by day. But Samuel’s story doesn’t have to be unique. With love, support, and community, many more refugees and people seeking asylum can experience transformation, hope, and belonging.
At Welcome Churches, we’re equipping churches across the UK to welcome refugees, celebrate diversity, and build communities where everyone is empowered to belong and find their voice.
By giving today, you’re helping to shape a future where no refugee or person seeking asylum is left alone.
